Not bothered about the opinion of critics, says Yuvraj Singh after half-century

Yuvraj Singh

While Delhi Daredevils suffered yet another demoralising loss in the IPL yesterday, there was one big positive in the form of Yuvraj Singh, who looks to be back in form after his innings of 57 off 44 deliveries against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai last night.

When asked if he had silenced his critics with this knock, Yuvraj said: "My job is to play cricket, critics' job is to write. I don't read what comes out. I don't have that much time in my life at the moment. I try and stick to my job and you guys stick to your job."

As mentioned earlier, though, Yuvraj’s half-century wasn’t enough to prevent Delhi from succumbing to a 5-wicket loss, despite having reduced Mumbai to 40 for 4 in their run chase of 153 at one stage. While the 33-year-old said that he was happy to contribute some runs to the team's cause, he expressed regret at not getting over the line.

“Good for me, good for the team but the important thing is to win. If you don't get two points it's a waste,” he said.

“We had them at 40 for 4. We should have won the game from there, but we didn't pick up wickets.”

Delhi Daredevils have lost six out of the ten games they have played so far, which means that they need to win all of their next four matches to even have a chance of reaching the play-offs. Yuvraj believes that they need to draw inspiration from Kolkata Knight Riders’ campaign last year, when they were in a similarly difficult position but went on to win the tournament.

"We got four games. It's going to be tough, but is not impossible. Last year KKR won 6-7 games in a row to qualify for the last four and then went on to win the tournament. Anything is possible in cricket," he concluded.
