Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his aggressive celebration, following the dismissal of Luke Ronchi during the final ODI in the 7-match series on Thursday.

After bowling the New Zealand wicket-keeper out for 47, Kulasekara ran down the length of the pitch, suddenly changed direction and seemed to have uttered something behind the batsman’s back.

The 32-year-old was charged with behaviour that was described by the governing body as "unacceptable" and against the spirit of the game or bringing the game to disrepute.

The ICC also said that Kulasekara aggressively changed direction towards Ronchi which was deemed as completely unacceptable by the match officials. They also added that the fast bowler had accepted his offence.

"Kulasekara accepted the offence and the proposed sanction of an official reprimand,” the statement said.

Despite handing a consolation win to the Lankans by 34 runs, the Black Caps won the 7-match series 4-2 with the third game at Auckland producing a no-result.
