Olympic gold medallist Yohan Blake keen on IPL stint with RCB or KKR after retirement

Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake is keen to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Usain Bolt and keep his sporting career alive following his retirement from track and field.

Bolt, who had long harboured a dream of playing professional football, trained with Borussia Dortmund and even had a trial with Australian side Central Coast Mariners. He was also an avid cricket fan back in the day and even turned out alongside Chris Gayle in a charity match.

Blake, meanwhile, is keen to outdo his fellow Jamaican and has set his sights on the lucrative Indian Premier League. Speaking to reporters in India during the promotion of the Road Safety World Series, Blake expressed his desire to represent - and even own - an IPL franchise in the future.

“I have two more years left in track and field and then it's cricket for me. But, I do not wish to play for the West Indies. I would love to feature in franchise cricket; I would even love to own a franchise in India. And most importantly, play for either Kolkata Knight Riders or the Royal Challengers Bangalore.”

Blake, who is a huge fan of Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, also revealed that he had turned down an offer to play in the 2019 Caribbean Premier League as he is still focussed on his athletics career.

He is set to retire in two years' time though, and it remains to be seen if any IPL franchise is willing to take a punt on the second-fastest man in the world.
