One arrest made in Wasim Akram shooting incident

Wasim Akram escaped unhurt after the shooting incident on Wednesday

Police investigating the shooting incident involving Pakistan legend Wasim Akram have arrested a suspect in the case, Geo TV reports. The man apprehended is a private security guard and the police are still on the lookout for his employer, who is still at large.

Akram’s car was shot at after he got into a verbal duel with the driver of the car while he was travelling to National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday. A person stepped out of the back seat and opened fire at the car, though the former fast bowler was able to escape unhurt.

“The police have detained one suspect after a raid on his home in Quaidabad’s Daud Chowrangi locality,” said DIG Karachi-East Zone, Munir Ahmed Shaikh, according to The Dawn. He added that the person arrested is the driver of the vehicle and the main suspect who opened fire has been identified but didn’t divulge further details about him.

According to Geo TV, the owner of the vehicle was also present at the time of the incident and Sheikh expressed confidence that he will be nabbed as they have retrieved the CCTV footage of the incident. He added that he will be handing over the vehicle’s registration number, that Akram had shared with the police while registering the police case, to seek the assistance of the excise department.

There are also unconfirmed reports that Akram has identified the attacker from the picture shown to him by the police. The 'Sultan of Swing', who is conducting a hands-on training camp for emerging pace bowlers at Karachi, will continue his present assignment, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed.

“Wasim Akram is in trauma but all right. He is staying in Karachi and will continue supervising the camp for fast bowlers at the National Stadium,” a PCB spokesperson said, as reported by The Dawn.
