Overseas players who owe their career to the IPL
The Indian Premier League, in its existence over the last 11 years, has changed the lives of many cricketers who have had the opportunity to play in the multi-star studded league.
Indian cricketers like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav have come into the international side after performing well in the IPL.
Apart from the Indian players, there are also a few overseas players, who have made a career for themselves in the international arena using the IPL as a launching pad.
Here are a few overseas players who made a name for themselves through the IPL.
James Faulkner
The Australian all-rounder has been a part of the IPL since 2011, a year before he made his international debut. He was part of the now-defunct Sahara Pune Warriors but was barely allowed to make an impact as he played just three matches combined in the 2011 and 2012 season.
His breakout season came in the 2013 IPL season when he was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals in the auction. Faulkner captured 28 wickets in the season to finish second in the race for the purple cap losing out to Dwayne Bravo who took 32 wickets.
Before the 2013 IPL season, Faulkner had played in a total of five ODIs and three T20Is but his performance in that IPL season made the selectors take note of him and he immediately became a regular part of the Australian ODI and T20I squad. After the commencement of the 2013 IPL season, Faulkner played in 14 ODIs & three T20Is, all in 2013 alone.
Since his breakout IPL season in 2013, Faulkner has been a regular member of the Australian white ball squads and also a prominent figure in the IPL. Faulkner has played in 64 ODIs and 21 T20Is since the 2013 IPL season.
