Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq blames Waqar Younis for Pakistan's debacle
Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has blamed the legendary pacer Waqar Younis, who recently resigned as the head coach of the Pakistan national team, for the national cricket team’s current predicament.
Razzaq who played 46 tests and 265 ODIs for Pakistan has also played alongside Waqar Younis. Razzaq who made his ODI debut way back in 1996 has had some memorable performances for Pakistan with both bat and ball. He came to prominence in the 1999 world cup when he went on to score his first half century making 60 runs in a long and stable partnership with Inzamam-ul-Haq, which helped Pakistan reach a defendable target of 275.
Waqar is responsible for causing insecurity among the players
In a recent interview, Razzaq criticized his former teammate and launched a scathing attack on him by saying, “It is no secret and I am witness to this that Waqar never wanted or respected senior players and was never able to treat all players equally and fairly which resulted in disharmony in the team. He himself is responsible for causing insecurity among the players and not being able to give them enough confidence to perform well for the country," reports zee news.
The veteran all-rounder was also skeptical about the Pakistan Cricket Board's decision to appoint Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan as advisors. He said, “Tell me if today Pakistan is at the bottom in limited over cricket who is responsible. Obviously, the very people who have been playing for the last six-seven years. So what advice will they give to the board.“
He also claimed that some former players were also responsible with the board for the poor position of Pakistan cricket. “There are some players who are only interested in good jobs and positions. How many want to work at the grass root level and really do something productive for Pakistan cricket?,” asked the former Pakistani international.
However, he praised the appointment of former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq as the chief selector and backed the move by saying, "I have played with him and under his captaincy and if he follows the same principles he followed as a captain than he will be doing something good for Pakistan cricket."
According to Razzaq, Inzamam never chose players on the basis of their statistics as he always played those players whom he believed could deliver for Pakistan and he always stood by their selection and fought for them wholeheartedly.
Biggest Problem in Pakistan Cricket
The all-rounder has also pointed out that the biggest problem with Pakistan cricket in recent years had been the inability of selectors and team management to decide which players were ideal for which format.
He said, "We don't even know who is good for which format and we keep on tinkering with the teams all the time and we expected good results. Look at our performances our rankings have been going down since the last few years."
Razzaq has also dropped a hint that he wants to make a comeback to the national side and he will try to impress the selectors with his performances in the upcoming domestic season.
