Pakistan cricketer accused of bringing a female guest to his hotel room during the BPL

Bangladeshi Internationals Sabbir Rahman (in pic) and Al-Amin Hossain were charged for similar offence

In spite of a prior warning from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) organisers, a Pakistani all-rounder was accused of inviting a female guest to his hotel room during the recently concluded tournament. The cricketer was later warned by the BPL officials for his actions.

Although the name of the cricketer was not revealed by the authorities, the charges were found to be true. As per the revelations, the cricketer is a Pakistani all-rounder who has been performing well for the national side in the recent past. Another overseas player from a different country was also found with a female guest in his hotel room. A source close to the BPL said that the players were warned during the tournament about bringing girls to their hotel rooms.

The source also added that the Pakistani International was advised in particular about a girl who is already on the list of anti-corruption investigators and it was found that the cricketer was hanging out with that particular girl. When the BPL organisers noticed this activity, they rushed to the hotel room and ejected the lady in an unfriendly manner.

The source said, “the organisers had advised the players to not invite female guests to their rooms. In the case of this Pakistani player, he was advised in particular about a foreign national girl who was on the watch list of the anti-corruption sleuths in the BPL. The matter was hushed up on the intervention of top cricket officials but the BPL organisers are also not happy with his overall behaviour.”

The source also revealed that the cricketer escaped punishment as he was an overseas professional. “The Pakistani player escaped any financial penalties as he was an overseas signing,” the source added.

As many as 18 Pakistani players participated in Bangladesh’s T20 extravaganza which was won by Shakib-al-Hasan’s Dhaka Dynamites. This was not the first instance of such happenings during the 2016 BPL. Earlier in the tournament, Bangladeshi Internationals Sabbir Rahman and Al-Amin Hossain were caught for bringing female guests to their hotel rooms and were charged with heavy fines for their actions.

The 2016 edition of BPL had 46 matches and the month-long tournament came to an end on Friday when Dhaka Dynamites beat Darren Sammy’s Rajshahi Kings by 56 runs in the Finals.
