Pat Cummins misses CA contract and axed from the Ashes
Australia’s chief selector, John Inverarity, has axed Australia’s sensational pace-bowler from the Ashes. He’ll perhaps have to wait for the home Ashes series in November.
Cummins, who made a remarkable Test debut in South Africa in 2011, and also had been a flourishing bowler in the shorter format of the game alongside McKay, failed to make the cut for the Ashes.
He actually had a strain to his upper back in the Champions League 2012, which forced him to miss the rest of the domestic season and also missed the series against India. Australia’s chief selector has said that he should probably look for the home Ashes series in November as they have finalized the contract for the year 2013-14.
“He’s tracking well, the one thing we’re certainly not going to do is rush him,” Inverarity told reporters in Perth.
“He’s working on three fronts. Firstly, he’s working on rehabilitating his back injury and the second thing is he’s doing a lot of strength and conditioning and fitness work.
“The third thing, which he’s doing a lot of work with Dennis Lillee on, is remodelling his action because his action had a lot of twists and turns in it.”
Soon after his impressive first-class debut, he had been contracted by Cricket Australia for the year 2011 as his 6 wickets in the second innings of Wanderes opened his career.
Inverarity however backed Cummins to make come-back without any mishap. He doesn’t want Pat Cummins’ rhythm to be lost midway. “He’s a question mark in terms of when we bring him back,” Inverarity added. “When he comes through, we want him to come through without any further mishap.”
Pat Cummins should play a lot of domestic Cricket, and that’s the only way to earn a place in the squad.
