The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain of the Pakistan team for the 2019 World Cup.

The confirmation was made by PCB chairman, Ehsan Mani who after having a discussion with Sarfaraz, made a call.

"There's no doubt that Sarfraz Ahmed is our captain and he will remain so until any other decision is taken," he said. "There are speculations after every series in the media which is unsubstantiated. He will captain Pakistan in the Australia series [five ODIs before the World Cup] and in the World Cup. After it, we will sit and evaluate the performance.

The chairman of the board also added that Pakistan should not forget the contributions Sarfaraz has made for Pakistan.

Sarfaraz was banned for 4 games by ICC for his racist comments on Andile Phehlukwayo, the South African all rounder in the 2nd ODI of the Pakistan tour to South Africa.

The Pakistan captain though did apologize from Andile in personnel and even on his twitter handle, he was not spared by the ICC.

Sarfaraz Ahmed was called back home by Pakistan after the ban.

After the incident, Shoaib Malik captained Pakistan in the remaining games and his good captaincy aroused a bit of suspicion at a dramatic change in Pakistan's captain, but that is not how it panned out. The chairman himself cleared the doubts and now Sarfaraz is assigned to captain Pakistan in the 19 World Cup.

His first major tournament as the captain was the Champions Trophy in 2017. In the semi-final, Pakistan beat the hosts England comprehensively to enter Pakistan's first Champions Trophy final. Sarfaraz Ahmed's captaincy was the talk of the town as Pakistan comfortably beat India in the final. Sarfaraz would hope same result in this World Cup too, to ensure his faith in his country.
