Piers Morgan dismisses West Indian legend Brian Lara for a duck in Sir Ian Botham's charity match

Brian Lara made an appearance for the MCC at Lord’s last month

Sir Ian Botham, in collaboration with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), hosted a T20 charity cricket match at Warner Park stadium in St. Kitts on August 12, 2014. The total money that was raised by the match went to Special Olympics St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Persons with Disabilities and the Creative Youth Academy.

The two teams participating in the noble cause were captained by two cricketing legends in Botham and Brian Lara. Lara’s team featured players of the ilk of Despond Haynes, Graeme Swann, Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh while the likes of Danny Morrison and Darren Gough lined up for former English all-rounder’s team.

“We’ve got some fantastic talents taking the field on Tuesday night and I would like to thank them for getting involved for a great cause. Nothing beats cricket in the Caribbean and the party cricket vibes are guaranteed to keep the runs and the rums flowing,” Botham was quoted as saying by CPLT20.com prior to the match.

The 58-year-old was absolutely right in saying that some fantastic cricketers were participating in the game, and with that being the case, I don’t think anyone was anticipating celebrity journalist Piers Morgan to bag the man of the match award but that is exactly what happened.

The former CNN host, who was part of Botham’s team, turned in an all-round performance as he smashed a 6 and a 4 off the last over, which was bowled by Lara, to win Botham’s XI the game after having astoundingly dismissed the West Indian great earlier in the day for nought.

Morgan has often bragged about his cricketing ability, even challenging the fearsome Brett Lee for a battle during the Ashes last year, and having now got Lara out for 0, one imagines that this is the not the last we will hear of it from the Irishman.
