Kevin Pietersen expected to feature in Ram Slam T20 this year

Kevin Pietersen

Kevin Pietersen, the belligerent England batsman, is all set to resume his cricket career in his birthplace South Africa.

Pietersen, whose contract with the English county team Surrey recently expired, is now a free agent. The 34-year-old, who is in the Rainbow Nation spending his holidays, is expected to feature in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge, South Africa’s domestic 20-over competition.

Former Proteas skipper Graeme Smith, who is the director of the T20 competition, is said to be strongly in favour of acquiring Pietersen’s services to improve the quality of the tournament. He was one of the few who voiced their support for Pietersen’s “bullying” claims in the England camp.

Although none of the six franchises has given a hint as to who could grab him, an announcement is expected in a week’s time when the contracts get finalised.

Albeit Pietersen being the flamboyant figure you need for T20s, his form, of late, has been scratchy. The right-hander has a solitary score of above 50 in last 10 months. Earlier, Pietersen was roped by Melbourne Stars to represent them in Australia’s Big Bash League.
