In this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), 666 number of sixes have been hit so far with the longest being 108 meters by none other than Chris Gayle.  T20 cricket has helped batsmen to evolve and come up with new forms of technique to hit fours and sixes.

The IPL boasts of a number of batsmen who can turn the game on its head and win matches for their franchises with some big hitting.

With the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match on the horizon, here are 5 batsmen who are expected to hit the most number of sixes in Qualifier 2:

Chris Gayle

Possibly the greatest T20 batsman ever, Chris Gayle is known for his big hitting and the ability to dominate bowlers at will. He holds the world record for hitting the most number of sixes in T20s with over 500 hits over the fence in the format.

Gayle has already hit 35 sixes in this year’s IPL and if he is in the mood tomorrow, it will be hard for CSK to stop a Caribbean onslaught.

MS Dhoni

One of the best finishers in the game, MS Dhoni is known for his six hitting abilities. The helicopter shot is a unique cricketing stroke which batsmen other than Dhoni find hard to emulate.

The Ranchi-born cricketer has already hit 16 sixes in this edition of the IPL. In the 2nd Qualifier against RCB, a lot will be expected from the Indian LOI skipper when he makes his way to the middle.

AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in modern-day cricket. He has been brilliant for RCB this season, already scoring 512 runs in 15 games at a staggering average of 51.2.

The South African ODI captain's innings of 133* off 59 balls (which included 14 fours and 4 sixes) this season against the Mumbai Indians was one of the greatest in IPL history. He is one batsman who has the ability to hit the ball anywhere in the ground. RCB will expect him to continue his good run of form and hit some towering sixes on Friday.

Dwayne Smith

Super Kings opener Dwayne Smith is a very useful batsman when it comes to using the long handle and giving the team a quick-fire start. He uses the PowerPlay to good effect and makes sure he scores at a brisk pace.

Smith's innings of 62 off 30 deliveries, including 4 sixes, against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium last month is a testament to his big-hitting abilities.

Virat Kohli

One of the most flamboyant cricketers of the modern era, Virat Kohli has been in great form in this season’s IPL. He has led the Royal Challengers from the front and has scored 493 runs so far with 22 sixes to his name.

The Indian Test skipper has the ability to play according to the situation of the match - anchor the innings when needed and then shift gears. We can expect some fireworks from him at Ranchi as he will finally want to lay his hands on the IPL crown.
