Playing the game for a noble cause – The true spirit of a gentlemen’s game!
The AGS Health Cricket For a Cause, a cricket community based event will be organized in Chennai through the month of July and August 2013. The beneficiary of this event will be Cancer Research and Relief Trust (http://crrt.org.in/) – a charitable organization that is dedicated to provide cancer treatment on a not-for-profit basis.
The concept “Cricket For a Cause” was born when Sriram Krishnamurthy, Rajiv Anbazhagan, Shravan Krishnamurthy and Pradeep Mangapathy had a chance meeting with one of the founders of Cancer Research and Relief Trust, Dr. S.G. Ramanan. “We instantly knew we wanted to do something for CRRT and decided to link it with cricket” say Sriram. ” We have planned 3 events this year – an inter school under 14 cricket tournament, an inter- corporate cricket tournament and a fund raising event where in cricketers of different calibre are coming forward to donate money to CRRT. The way we see it, it is a cancer awareness cum fundraising event centered around cricketers and cricketing activities.”
Things moved rather fast from there. Talent Lanes, a Chennai based recruitment firm decided to promote the event and AGS Health – an award-winning revenue cycle management company, headquartered in Tidel Park (Chennai) came on board as the Title Sponsor.
“We have always believed in doing the right thing, the right way. We are just two years old. But in these last 24 months, we have experienced outstanding growth – acquiring a blue chip client base, adding over 1500 employees and expanding to multiple global locations. Earlier this year, we were also ranked as a ‘Rising Star’ in the 2013 Global Outsourcing 100 list by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®). Throughout this journey, we’ve had several discussions on Corporate Social Responsibility and we have specifically chosen sports as a vehicle to make a social impact. As a leading revenue cycle service provider to the US healthcare market, we firmly believe in the life-changing impact of timely and high quality healthcare. Creating access to such healthcare and patient support is key to building a healthy population. So using cricket as a tool to promote healthcare made perfect sense and we are proud to sponsor this noble cause” says Shankar Narasimhan, Executive Vice President, AGS Health.
“SportsKeeda are the Official Online Media partners while CricHQ are the Official Sports Technology Partners. For an event which is just in the first year, getting market leading brands to support us is a very encouraging sign” adds Rajiv. Impetus Analytic E- Solutions, a market research and analytics company will be the Official Awards Partner.
The AGS Health Inter School Under 14 Cricket Tournament will be held between 18th July – 24th July and will see active competition between 12 leading Chennai schools for the T20 inter-school trophy. Cancer awareness campaigns are being planned by CRRT through the duration of the tournament. The participating players from different schools will also be engaged in a fund raising capacity in the community. “Along with the AGS Health Cricket For a Cause Inter School Tournament Trophy, we have also got a special AGS Health Fundraising Trophy which will be awarded to the school team which raises the maximum funds. Cricket teaches a lot of positive life values and we thought young kids could do well to associate with societal causes and experience how a lot of people could be benefited with their help” says Sriram.
The AGS Health Cricket For a Cause Corporate T20 Cup will be held in Chennai across 2 weekends (July 27, 28 & August 3, 4). The tournament will be contested by 8 Chennai city based corporates.
The proceeds from both these tournaments along with the fundraising campaign will be donated in its entirety to the Cancer Research and Relief Trust.
Several leading cricketers from Tamil Nadu have already come forward to support this event and this group is likely to widen in the coming days.
