Poll: Who would you bring back to save Australia in Ashes?
The third Test in the Ashes 2013 series starts today and Australia go into the game 2-0 down in need of a hero to save them from this dire situation.
But if you could bring back just one past Australian cricketer to help the current team, who would it be? Here are my suggestions:
Shane Warne
Arguably the best spinner the world has ever seen, he finished his Test career with a total of 708 wickets at an average of 25.41, now that would certainly knock fear into the England batters.
Steve Waugh
Steve was a fantastic captain and scored a total of 10,927 Test runs with an average of 51.06. He also claimed 92 wickets in his time. He would certainly keep the England bowlers busy.
Sir Donald Bradman
Don Bradman, need I say more? Arguably the best cricketer ever, he only played 52 Test matches but notched up 6,996 runs with a very famous average of 99.94. He would certainly be a match for Jimmy Anderson and well the likes of Bresnan wouldn’t stand a chance.
Allan Border
Border still retains the world record for the number of consecutive Test appearances of 153 and the number of Tests as captain. He scored an amazing 11,174 Test runs with an average of 50.56.
Glenn McGrath
Glenn was one of the finest bowlers ever. He claimed 563 Test wickets in 124 matches and the England batters would be in a spot of bother while facing him.
So there you have it. Those are my suggestions, if bringing back old players was possible.
But who would you pick? Yes, it’s a hard choice I know! Personally, I would perhaps sway towards just cheating and picking them all. No no, cheating isn’t right (ahem Broad).
I am stuck between Don Bradman and Shane Warne. but I suppose it would have to be Bradman, he is the pinnacle of Australian cricket after all.
