Powell eighth West Indian to score two centuries in Test

Bridgetown (Barbados), Nov 17 (IANS/CMC): Keiran Powell Friday became the eighth West Indian batsman to hit a century in each innings of cricket Test scoring 117 and 110 against Bangladesh in the Dhaka Test.

George Headley and Clyde Walcott are the only batsmen to achieve the feat twice. Headley scored 114 and 112 against England at Georgetown, Guyana, in 1930 and 106 and 107 at Lord’s in 1939, while Walcott did it against Australia, both in the 1955 series, 126 and 110 at Port of Spain, Trinidad, and 155 and 110 at Kingston, Jamaica.

The other West Indians to score two centuries in the same Test are, all?rounder Garfield Sobers in Georgetown against Pakistan in 1958, Rohan Kanhai in Adelaide against Australia, Lawrence Rowe at Kingston against New Zealand, Gordon Greenidge at Machester against England and Brian Lara at Sinhalese Sports Ground in Colombo against Sri Lanka.
