How to be the most loved cricket team in the world: South African stars give 11-year-old fan the best surprise
“The Proteas have some of the best cricket fans in the world.”
This claim by Cricket South Africa’s official YouTube channel may be debatable, but there’s no denying the fact that when it comes to giving love back to the fans, the Proteas are definitely at the top.
What makes them so special?
Well, for one thing, a small gesture like this that has the potential to inspire young cricketers.
11-year-old Kieron Adams of Southfield, Cape Town is just another passionate cricket fan, an all-rounder who’s also the captain of his school’s U-11 team and idolises Hashim Amla “because of his humbleness, and just the way he bats.”
“He’s a great batsman and I just want to bat like him.”
So when one day, Kieron came home to find his heroes Amla, AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn waiting for him, it quite amazingly turned out to be the ‘best day of his life’. They were joined by Vernon Philander and Faf du Plessis who played street cricket with Kieron’s school team, making it a memorable day for all.
By the way, Dale Steyn apparently loves scaring kids, be it Quinton de Kock or Kieron Adams:
No doubt they’re the favourites for this World Cup, but with gestures like these, they have a strong chance to win the tag of the most loved one too!
