ICC Test rankings: Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja climb to second spot

Team India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara rose to the second spot, while captain Virat Kohli stayed put at fifth spot after the latest ICC Test rankings, released after the end of the India-Sri Lanka Test at Nagpur, as well as the opening Ashes Test at Brisbane.

Steve Smith, on the back of his 21st Test century, increased his lead at the first spot, and now has 941 points, well ahead of the second placed Pujara. 

His opposite number, Joe Root, stays at the No.4 slot, while Aussie opener David Warner remained at the No.6 spot. 

India’s KL Rahul slid one spot, and now is on the No.9 spot, whereas Murali Vijay and middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma, who scored centuries in the second Test, have also rose eight places to 28th position, and seven places to 46 respectively.

In the bowler’s rankings, Ravichandran Ashwin, who beat Dennis Lillee’s record for being the fastest to reach 300 Test wickets, consolidated his position at No.4. Ravichandran Ashwin gained one spot to become second, just one below England’s James Anderson.
