Pune Warriors snap up J&K all-rounder Parvez Rasool
It was only the other day that Parvez Rasool was talking about getting a chance to showcase his skills in the Indian Premier League (IPL). And the ambition to be part of the cash-rich league seems to be realized with the J&K off-spinner being snapped up by Pune Warriors for IPL-6.
The 24-year-old all-rounder, who grabbed much attention when he snaffled a superb haul of 7 for 45 for the Board President’s XI against the touring Australians in Chennai recently, got picked in the Pune Warriors side even as they initiated efforts to boost their spin bowling department.
He will be the first player from J&K to play in the IPL.
The youngsters had a stellar 2012-13 Ranji season. He topped the bowling and batting charts for Jammu and Kashmir. He amassed 594 runs from seven games at an average of 54.00, which included two centuries and two fifties with a highest score of 171.
He bagged 33 wickets at an average of 18.09. He captured three five-wicket hauls with a personal best of 7 for 41.
It learnt that Pune Warriors approached Rasool much before his seven-wicket feat against the Australians. In fact, some other franchises also approached him after Pune made the first move.
His all-round skills could come in handy for the Warriors, who have the likes of Michael Clarke, Yuvraj Singh and Ross Taylor in their ranks.
