R Vinay Kumar looking to make a comeback into the Indian team
At the moment, particularly on Indian pitches, Virat Kohli’s Test side are banking on Ravichandran Ashwin and co, to do the job for them. While that is nothing to take away from the likes of Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav etc, they will be the first to admit that their roles have been curtailed to a great extent.
The past few years have seen a lot of new fast bowlers emerge in India and one of who has been toiling away on the domestic circuit is R Vinay Kumar, who has tasted a lot of success in recent years with Karnataka.
The 32-year-old, who last played for India in the 2013 ODI series against Australia at home, is now looking to do all he can to get back into the national setup and is hoping to string in some good performances which would help him achieve that goal.
"I surely want to get 500-600 wickets, but that is not easy. My main aim is to play for India. I want to do everything possible for that. By performing I can definitely knock on the doors of the Indian team again,” Vinay told Cricbuzz.
Away from the Indian setup, Vinay has done wonders with his state side, having led them to consecutive Ranji Trophy titles in 2014 and 2015 and also having done well in the limited-overs competition as well.

At 32, he is no longer a spring chicken, but Vinay is optimistic that he will get a look in, if he continues to put in the hard yards in First Class cricket.
"I am a more mature bowler now. I can read the batsman quickly, his weakness and then play on his weakness, which is what is helping me get wickets faster.
"I will get my chances. I'm not saying I will get it tomorrow or in the coming series. You never know, anything can happen. But the good thing in Indian cricket is that there is a healthy competition. Whenever I get my chance I will perform. That is my biggest goal," he added.
Ever since making his international debut in the 2010 World T20 in the West Indies, Vinay has played 31 ODIs, 9 T20Is and 1 Test against Australia at Perth, for India. Karnataka clinched an emphatic 393-run win in their latest Rani Trophy match against Team Rajasthan in Vizianagaram.
