Raees replaces Wahab in Pakistan squad

Pakistan bowler Wahab Riaz limps off

Rumman Raees has replaced the injured Wahab Riaz in Pakistan's ICC Champions Trophy squad.

Wahab damaged his ankle in a 124-run hammering at the hands of fierce rivals India at Edgbaston on Sunday after he was taken for 87 runs off only 8.4 overs - the worst figures in the history of the competition.

The left-arm quick was ruled out for the rest of the tournament and the ICC on Tuesday granted Pakistan permission for Raees to replace him.

Raees, 25, has only played for his country twice in Twenty20 internationals, but is now set to get his chance in the 50-over format on the big stage in England.

"It is a great opportunity for me to make my mark in the team," Raees told The Express Tribune.

"I was only able to play one match against West Indies [in the T20 series in April] but now I am looking to play more matches and perform."

Pakistan will look to respond to a humbling loss in their opening match when they take on South Africa at Edgbaston on Wednesday.
