Rahul Dravid impressed with India's batting talent and hopes to see a settled unit while playing overseas
The Indian cricket team are at present on a mini break from the game, with the next Test scheduled for next Thursday against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Virat Kohli-led side have already taken an unassailable 2-0m lead in the series and look good to clinch the series either in Mumbai or in the Chennai Test, that begins a few days after the conclusion of the fourth Test.
One of the most encouraging aspects of this present team is their batting, with the top 3 of the four batsmen having registered a hundred plus score in this score and expressing delight over their capabilities, former India captain Rahul Dravid said that the side were developing as a unit and heaped praise, in particular on Cheteshwar Pujara, who has made a strong comeback in recent times from a tough phase with the bat.
"Pujara has been exceptional at No. 3 after I've left. He's batted beautifully. He's played well in this series (against England), he is a terrific Test player. I hope that we are going to see his best years ahead. Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin have been exceptional as well, and Virat is absolutely sensational. I think we've some very good talent. I'm very impressed with the batting talent we have and they are growing, developing as a team, they still they are figuring their way out,” Dravid said Link Intime annual lecture on Thursday.
India are currently in the middle of a long stretch of home Tests and Dravid felt it was a good thing and admitted that by the time the team begins to travel abroad, they would have figured out a settled unit.
“It's a nice thing that they have a lot of these home Tests over the next few months and I hope that by the time India travels abroad for tours, we will have a settled batting line up, a sort of confident successful middle order in place. If you have a set middle order and the guys know and are secured in their position, I think it will give us the best chance to succeed abroad too," he said.
The test team are at present ranked Number One in the world and have a batsman and a bowler in the top three in the world in individual rankings as well, with Kohli ranked at Number 3 and Ashwin at the pole position.
