Rahul Dravid - Yet another example of his greatness
Rahul Dravid has been an epitome of sportsman spirit for over a decade now. There have been numerous situation, whether on or off-the field, , this man has always shown why he is one of the finestĀ sports personnel over the years around the world.
Today once again we witnessed why he is The Best even now. It was the match against Rajasthan and Punjab. The Punjabis were going at full force with Gilly and Marsh showing their true class and character.
The match was going normally, unlike the character of IPL, until something like this happened-
Gilchrist played a shot towards mid-off to steal a quick single off the bowling of Chandila. The throw came in from the mid-off position, and hit Gilchrist on his hand which resulted a delay in his reach to the non-striker point, this gave ample of time to young Chandila to throw the ball at stumps and create an appeal out of it. Clearly Gilchrist foot was behind the popping-crease and if they would have continued with their appeal they could have easily got Gilchrist’s wicket and break the partnership which was seriously hurting them.
Well, this was something that did not happen this time around, because it was Dravid who was the opposition captain. He went straight to the umpire to withdraw the appeal made by Chandila, because under no circumstances was that fair because Gilly was not expecting the throw to come to him, and also the ball hit him on his hands. In order to save himself from any sort of injury he had to take defensive action against the throw, which created a delay in hisĀ arrive at the non-striker’s end.
The scene didnot end here, Rahul after withdrawing his appeal went straight to Chandila to give him a piece of mind on how to behave on field and teach the young blood what actually sportsmanship means. Not only this he also apologized to Gilchrist for Chandila’s action.
Well today Dravid could have easily, claimed Gilchrist wicket just like Kohli did it in Mumbai. But it’s because of the standard that Dravid sets for himself, denied him from doing a thing that is against the rules of sportsmanship spirit.
Kohli must have been watching this incident and must learn from the mistake that he did in Mumbai. Well, I am still not justifying the stuff that Mumbai crowd did with Kohli but yes this is the behaviour we expect from a high profile Indian player on field. I am sure as time passes by, Kohli will be able to take over his aggression and set another standard for himself.
I am not asking Kohli to become another Dravid, because it’s next to what we call impossible. No one can ever take place of Dravid in the heart of cricket fans. We know only one Mr.Wall and he is our super awesome RAHUL DRAVID.
