Rahul Dravid's son hits match-winning knock for his school team

Rahul Dravid’s eldest son, Samit, aged 9, hit an unbeaten 77 for his school team in a Gopalan Cricket Challenge Cup Under-12 match, Cricket County reports. Samit, along with Johann who top-scored with a knock of 91, helped Mallya Aditi International School beat New Horizon Public School by a margin of 114 runs.

The pair went berserk as their team notched up a mammoth 210 runs in just 16 overs in the match held at the St. John's Medical College Grounds. In reply, the opposition could only manage 96 runs.

IPL fans might be familiar with Samit, who along with his younger brother Anvay, was seen during the practice sessions of the Rajasthan Royals, who has Dravid as their mentor. They took part in some diving practice and Australian skipper Steven Smith was seen giving some valuable tips to the youngsters.

Samit seems to have paid attention and it looks like Dravid’s elder son is on his way to follow his father’s footsteps. Dravid is one of India’s greatest ever batsman and has amassed more than 10000 runs in the Test and ODI format, one of only seven players to achieve this feat. Dravid himself started playing at a young age and represented his state Karnataka at the U-15, U-17 and U-19 levels.

Still a long way to go as Samit will only turn 10 this October, but if he continues to play such innings there's no reason why he cannot emulate his father. He will have the utmost backing from Dravid as well as his grandparents who were instrumental in Dravid's growth as a young cricketer.

“Rahul always had an inclination towards cricket. As a three-year-old boy, he would accompany his father to the company matches. His father played cricket for Kissan (Sharad Dravid was the general manager at Kissan) almost every week. I think that is how he got interested in the sport," Dravid's mother Pushpa once said.
