Rahul's ton help India post 185/1 at lunch on Day 2
Kingston, July 31 (IANS) India opener Lokesh Rahul scored his third Test hundred and remained unbeaten on 107 to have his side on the driver's seat at 185/1 at lunch of Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies at Sabina Park here on Sunday.
India still trail by 11 runs with nine wickets in hand. On Saturday, Day 1 of the game, West Indies were bowled out for a paltry 196.
Cheteshwar Pujara stayed put on at the other end on 37. Off spinner Roston Chase was the only successful bowler for the hosts with figures of 1/52. But he had grabbed the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan on the first day.
Rahul and Pujara started off cautiously adding to their overnight score of 126/1 slowly.
The only bright spark for the home side in the opening few hours was pacer Shannon Gabriel who time and again beat Rahul outside the off stump. He managed two draw two edges also but both fell short of the close in fielders.
But once Gabriel ran out of steam, Rahul pounced on anything loose and the rival bowlers helped him by hurling short ones.
He skipped down the track to Chase and lofted the off spinner over mid on to bring up his century with a majestic six. Pujara too defended well and pushed hard between the wickets.
The duo, however, were not over attacking and hence the run rate stayed on the lower side for much of the session.
Brief Scores: West Indies: 196 all out (Jermaine Blackwood 62, Marlon Samuels 37; Ravichandran Ashwin 5/52, Mohammed Shami 2/23) vs India:A (Lokesh Rahul 107 not out ; Roston Chase 1/52).
