Ramdin charged by ICC for claiming Misbah's catch
West Indies wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin has been charged by ICC of breaching the Code of Conduct for claiming an illegal catch off Misbah-ul-Haq, off the bowling of Kemar Roach during the Champions Trophy match against Pakistan at The Oval. Ramdin, on his part, has pleaded not guilty and will be present at a hearing scheduled on Monday.
Ramdin is charged with breaching article 2.2.11 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which states “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”.
The incident happened in the ninth over of the Pakistan innings, when Misbah edged a Roach delivery to Ramdin. Initially he appeared to have caught the ball but then lost control of it as he fell forward, and ball slipped out of his gloves. Instead of confessing his mistake to the umpires, Ramdin rolled the ball towards the square-leg umpire and joined his team-mates in the celebrations.
Nigel Llong, the square-leg umpire, was alert to the situation and immediately referred to third umpire and the subsequent replays clearly showed the catch had been dropped. Misbah was yet to open his account at that time and went on to score 96*.
