Ramesh Powar announces retirement from cricket after current Ranji season

Ramesh Powar will quit cricket at the end of the ongoing Ranji season

Ramesh Powar, the stocky spinner from Mumbai who has been out of the India team since 2007, has said that he will retire from all formats of the game after the 2015-16 Ranji season, reported ESPNcricinfo.

The off-spinner, who played 2 Tests and 31 ODIs for India, was pushed to the sidelines after Amit Mishra and Ravichandran Ashwin took over as the first choice spinners.

The thirty-seven-year-old, with 341 Ranji wickets till date, is the highest wicket taker among the active bowlers in the tournament.

Powar who made his Ranji debut for Mumbai in the 1999-00 season moved to the Gujarat team in the 2014-15 season in search of greener pastures, following this stint with a year with Rajasthan.

He represented Mumbai for 14 seasons. Between 2004 and 2007, he represented India in two Tests and 31 ODIs, taking six wickets in the longest format and 34 in the one-dayers. Handy with the bat, he also has an ODI fifty to his name.
