Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Day 2 Round-Up: Goa create history; Yuvraj Singh fails with the bat
Punjab finished the day with 168 runs on the board with the loss of 4 wickets. They trail Bengal by 236 runs. Yuvraj Singh failed with the bat as he managed to score only 22. He was not able to carry his good form from the 2nd Round to the 3rd round.
Uday Kaul who is currently batting on 73 will be looking to convert his score into a century tomorrow and help Punjab near Bengal’s big total.
Earlier in the day, the Punjab bowlers made a good comeback and restricted Bengal to 404 after they began the day at 332-5.

The Goa cricket team created history as they crossed the 600 run mark for the first time. Batsman Sagun Kamat was the star of the day as he scored his first ever triple century and by doing so, he became the first ever player from Goa to score 300 in a Ranji Trophy match.
Along with Kamat, Sumiran Amonkar was among the high scores as well as he scored a well-crafted century. The duo put up a partnership of 237 runs for the 3rd wicket. Goa finally declared their innings with 606 runs on the board with the loss of 6 wickets.
As Services came out to bat, Rituraj Singh got an early breakthrough by dismissing opening batsman Anshul Gupta. They ended the second day of play with 39 runs on the board with the loss of one wicket.

Karnataka finished the day on top as they lead Gautam Gambhir’s Delhi by 324 runs after being bowled out for 414.
5 out of the 10 batsmen for Karnataka scored half-centuries. CM Gautam was the highest scorer for Karnataka as he scored 63. Ravikumar Sampath, Mayank Agarwal, Karun Nair and Kaunan Abbas chipped in with scored of 53, 56, 53, and 52 respectively.
Varun Sood and Vikas Tokas took a combined total of 7 wickets while Ishant Sharma managed only the lone wicket of Abhimanyu Mithun.

Despite making a good comeback with the ball, Mumbai seem to be in trouble against Madhya Pradesh at the end of day 2 as they trail MP by 407 runs with 8 wickets in hand.
Madhya Pradesh began the day at 238-2 and were looking to cross the 500 run mark but were denied the opportunity to do so as MP bowlers Vijay Gohil and Tushar Deshpande who bagged 3 wickets each to dismiss them for 445.
Mumbai began their innings well but found themselves in trouble as Kaustabh Pawar and Balwinder Sandhu were dismissed in quick succession.

Uttar Pradesh continued their onslaught against the Tamil Nadu bowlers as they amassed 524 runs in their first innings. After scoring a century yesterday, Samarth Singh was dismissed 13 runs short of a double-century.
Eklavya Dwivedi and Saurabh Kumar provided worthy contributions as both of them scored half-centuries to take UP to their high total.
As Tamil Nadu came out to bat, opening batsman Washington Sundar was dismissed after scoring 10 as they ended the day with the score being 34-1

Saurashtra was on song against Maharashtra as they managed a mighty total of 657 runs on the board. Captain Jaydev Shah led from the front as he scored a magnificent double century. He was well complimented by Sheldon Jackson and Chirag Jani who scored 105 and 100 respectively.
Indian Test batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara fell agonisingly short of another century as he was dismissed for 93.
After declaring their innings at 657-8, Maharashtra ended the day’s play at 18-0.
