Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Day 4 Round-Up: Delhi, MP register innings victory

The fourth day of the 2016-17 season of Ranji Trophy saw Delhi win by an innings and 83 runs over Assam. Assam began day 4 at the overnight score of 100 for 3, but faced some inspired bowling by Manan Sharma, who took a five-for, and capitulated at the final score of 313. 

This win gives Delhi 7 points, taking them at top of group A. Earlier, Rishab Pant and Nitish Rana scored 146 each for Delhi, and Pradeep Sangwan followed it up with another ton down the order, taking Delhi to 589. Pradeep also took a total of 5 wickets in the match, earning himself the man of the match award.

In a group B game at Hyderabad, Uttar Pradesh had a remarkable collapse from 161 for two to 225 all out, to lose by an innings and 64 runs against Madhya Pradesh. UP were asked to follow-on after getting dismissed for 176 in reply to MP's 465. They were 118 for 2 at the end of day two, but Chandrakant Sakura bowled a brilliant spell of fast bowling, taking 6 wickets for 40, getting taking MP to a win.

In a group A match played at Delhi, Punjab fought hard to play out a draw against Railways. India star Yuvraj Singh failed twice in the match, getting out on 9 and 17 respectively. Punjab were set at target of 362 in the fourth innings, after Railways declared on 245 in their second innings. Uday Kaul and Mandeep Singh put on 86 for the fourth wicket, taking Punjab to a respectable draw. Earlier Railways put on 331 riding on a 128 by Shivakant Shukla. Huge first innings scores from both sides saw Baroda and Gujarat play out a draw in a group A match in Jaipur. Looking to take the first innings lead, Manpreet Juneja scored a double ton for Gujarat, while Indian spinner Axar Patel made a hundred. Both of them took Gujarat to 554 for 4, giving them the first innings lead, giving them crucial points.

Earlier, Baroda Aditya Wagmode and Deepak Hooda made hundreds to take Baroda to 544. Juneja was the man of the match for his double ton.

In a rain-affected game held at Vizianagaram, Rajasthan survived to end with a draw against Saurashtra. Saurashtra put on 430 in the first innings, after Jaydev Shah put on a superb 193. In their reply, Rajasthan got all out for 105. They were asked to follow-on and were 30 for 4, when rain came and stopped the play, ending the match in a draw/
