Ranji Trophy 2016-17, Fifth Round Day 2 Round-Up: Ishan Kishan scores career-best, Pant smashes 82-ball century
It was the perfect day for Indian internationals, both U-19 and senior stars. Jharkhand’s Ishan Kishan notched up his career-best first-class score against Delhi while his teammate Rishabh Pant scored a century in the same match. Indian internationals Yuvraj Singh, Abhinav Mukund and Dinesh Karthik all had a good day two for their respective sides.
Jharkhand recovered from 80/4 on day one to post 493 courtesy of Ishan Kishan’s 273 against Delhi. Having begun the day on 359/6, Jharkhand almost got to the magical 500 mark thanks to the 18-year-old batsman putting on a batting masterclass at the St’ Xavier's KCA Cricket Ground in Trivandrum.
In the process, Kishan not only brought up his career-best first-class score but also crossed 1,000 runs in the longest format of the game in just his 15th first-class match. He was the last man to be dismissed as Jharkhand ended on 493. In response, Delhi lost three early wickets but got through till the close of play without any further loss thanks to two U-19 stars of their own in Unmukt Chand, who scored a fifty and Kishan’s teammate Rishabh Pant, who scored a 82-ball century.

After finishing day one just 14 runs behind Baroda’s total of 93, Tamil Nadu consolidated their position of strength on day as they racked up a 244-run first innings lead. Abhinav Mukund and Baba Indrajith began the day and quickly helped their side take the lead before putting on 147 runs for the second wicket.
Mukund brought up his third century in this year's Ranji Trophy while Indrajith and Dinesh Karthik both brought up their fifties as Tamil Nadu were eventually bowled out for 337. Indian fast bowler Munaf Patel was the pick of the bowlers for Baroda with four wickets. Deepak Hooda’s side ended the day still 200 runs behind.

Sandeep Sharma’s five-wicket haul helped Punjab bundle Uttar Pradesh for 335 before Yuvraj Singh continued his impressive form in this year’s Ranji Trophy to bring the deficit under 100 at the end of day two of their game at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
UP began the day at 300/6 but once Kuldeep Yadav fell for 71, they quickly folded and could only add 35 more runs to their overnight total. In response, Punjab’s openers put on a century partnership and three of their top four got fifties. At the end of the day, Yuvraj Singh was at the crease unbeaten on 72 with his side trailing by 87 runs.

Surya Kumar Yadav's century helped Mumbai post 345 in their game against Railways in Mysore. Fifties from Akhil Herwadkar and Shreyas Iyer set the platform for Mumbai on day one before Yadav scored 110 to help his side reach 345 on day two. In reply, the reigning champions picked up three early wickets as Railways finished the day trailing by 269 runs.
