Ranji Trophy 2018/19: Vidarbha, Uttar Pradesh, Karnatka in a commanding position, Gujarat need 195 runs to qualify for the semi-finals

It was a good day of cricket on the 2nd day of Ranji Trophy 2018/19 quarter-finals. In the first quarterfinals at VCA Stadium, Nagpur, the defending Champions Vidarbha are in a dominating position with 260 runs on the board for the loss of 1 wicket only after bowling out Uttarakhand for 355 in the first innings.

Uttar Pradesh are in a commanding position against Saurashtra at Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh starting the 2nd day on 340 for 7 was bowled out for 385 runs in the first innings. In reply, Saurashtra are in deep trouble with 170 for 7.

It was an exciting battle between Karnataka and Rajasthan at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Starting the 2nd day on 12 for 0, Karnataka 4 quick wickets in the first session and were reduced to 166 for 9. Vinay Kumar produced magical innings remaining not out on 83 to help Karnataka take a first innings lead of 39. In reply, Rajasthan ended the 2nd day on 11 for 0.

The match between Gujarat and Kerala is heading towards an exciting finish. Starting the 2nd day on 97 for 4, Gujarat were bowled out for 162 in the first innings, giving a lead of 23 runs to Kerala. In their second innings, Kerala were bowled out for 171 runs and set the target of 195 runs to win for Gujarat.

Vidarbha versus Uttarakhand (VCA Stadium, Nagpur)

The defending Champions Vidarbha began the 2nd day on a positive note bowling out Uttarakhand for 355 runs in their first innings. Saurabh Rawat made a brilliant 108. Umesh Yadav finished with figures of 4/90. Bingewar and Sarwate were other wicket-takers for Vidarbha. 

In reply, Vidarbha are in a dominating position at 260 for 1 with Wasim Jaffer and Ramaswamy still not out.

Uttar Pradesh versus Saurashtra ( Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium, Lucknow) 

Starting on an overnight score of 340 for 7, Uttar Pradesh added 45 runs to be bowled out for 385 runs in their first innings. Saurabh Kumar scored a quick fire 55, Shivam Mavi made 42. Unadkat took 3 more wickets to finish with 5 for 86.

In their first innings, the man of series from Australia test series, Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed for 11 runs. Saurashtra ended the 2nd day on 170 for 7.

Karnataka versus Rajasthan ( M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore)

Starting the 2nd day on 12 for 0, Karnataka did not start well, losing 4 quick wickets in the first session. Rajasthan continued to pick wickets at regular intervals and reduced Karnataka to 166 for 9. Vinay Kumar and Ronit More added 97 runs for the 10th wicket. Vinay Kumar produced magical innings to remain not out on 83.

Karnataka were bowled out for 263 runs in their first innings to take a lead of 39 runs. In their second innings, Rajasthan ended the 2nd day on 11 for 0.   

Rajasthan 224 in 77.1 overs ( Bishnoi 79, Lomror 50, A Mithun 3/48, K Gowtham 3/54) and 11 for 0 in 3 overs ( Amitkumar Gautam 11*) trail Karnataka 263 in 87.4 overs ( Vinay Kumar 83*, KV Siddharth 52, Rahul Chahar 5/93, Tanveer UL Haq 3/50) by 28 runs. 

Gujarat versus Kerala ( Krishnagiri Stadium, Waynard)

The bowlers continued to enjoy the day in the game between Gujarat and Kerala at Wayanad. Starting on an overnight score of 97 for 4, Gujarat were bowled out for 162 runs in their first innings. It was an amazing bowling display by Kerala fast bowlers wreaked havoc and dismissed Gujarat cheaply in the first innings.

Kerala in their second innings were too bowled out for 171 runs. S Joseph was the top scorer for with 56 runs and Jalaj Saxena not out on 44. Kerala set the target of 195 runs to win for Gujarat. Rush Kalaria took a hat trick for Gujarat.

Kerala 185 in 39.3 overs ( Basil Thampi 37, P Rahul 26, Gaja 4/57, Nagwaswalla 3/50) and 171 in 59 overs ( S Joseph 56, Jalaj Saxena 44*, Axar Patel 3/40, Rush Kalaria 3/36) lead Gujarat 162 in 51.4 overs ( Parthiv Patel 43, Kalaria 36, Rujul Bhatt 14, Raval 17, Basil Thampi 3/61, Sandeep Warrier 4/42, Nidheesh 3/38) 194 runs.
