Ranking GT's 5 best buys in IPL 2025 Auction ft. Jos Buttler

IPL 2022 champions Gujarat Titans (GT) purchased 20 players at the two-day mega auction held at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25. GT retained five players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, including Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill. They went into the auction with a purse of ₹69 crore and 20 slots remaining, with seven overseas slots.

England's white-ball captain and destructive opener Jos Buttler was Gujarat Titans' most expensive purchase at the IPL 2025 auction. The bidding for him began at a base price of ₹2 crore. The 34-year-old was eventually bought for ₹15.75 crore. GT also went for Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj and South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada for ₹12.25 and ₹10.75 crore, respectively.

After purchasing 20 players at the mega auction, including six overseas cricketers, Gujarat Titans were left with funds of ₹15 lakh. On that note, we rank GT's top five buys at the IPL 2025 auction.

#5 Gerald Coetzee

Gujarat Titans purchased South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee for ₹2.4 crore. The right-arm pacer represented Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2024 season and did a more than decent job, claiming 13 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 26.23 and an economy rate of 10.18.

The 24-year-old might go for a few runs, but he is a wicket-taking bowler with an aggressive mindset. In his T20 career, he has claimed 86 scalps in 64 matches at an average of 21.56 and an economy rate of 8.62, with five four-wicket hauls to his credit.

Besides his skills with the ball, the Proteas cricketer is also a handy hitter with the willow down the order. Coetzee showed what he is capable of with some impressive cameos during the T20I series against India at home recently.

#4 Mohammed Siraj

Team India pacer Siraj played a key role in the side's famous Test triumph in Perth, picking up three crucial wickets in the second innings and two in the first. GT purchased him for ₹12.25 crore at the IPL 2025 auction.

The 30-year-old represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from 2018 to 2024 and is the franchise's third-highest wicket-taker. In 87 matches for RCB, he picked up 83 wickets at an average of 31.44 and an economy rate of 8.60. Siraj's average is slightly on the higher side, which indicates that he has not been as consistent as some of the other pacers in the Indian Premier League.

The defiant cricketer, though, has rediscovered his bowling rhythm in recent times. Gujarat Titans will thus be confident of him delivering the goods in IPL 2025.

#3 Kagiso Rabada

South Africa's lead pacer Rabada was also purchased by GT for ₹10.75 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The right-arm fast bowler is a wicket-taking pacer, who has picked up 117 wickets in 80 matches in the IPL at an average of 21.97 and an economy rate of 8.48. He has six four-fers to his credit in the IPL.

The 29-year-old Proteas pacer has been one of the few bright spots for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in recent seasons. He represented them from 2022 to 2024, picking up 41 wickets in 30 matches at an average of 24.63 and an economy rate of 8.93.

Undoubtedly, Rabada is one of the premier fast bowlers in the game today across formats. Gujarat Titans will be pleased to have acquired his services for IPL 2025.

#2 Jos Buttler

England's white-ball captain Buttler was GT's most expensive buy at the IPL 2025 auction, having been purchased for ₹15.75 crore. The hard-hitting batter commanded a high amount based on his IPL exploits over the years.

Buttler represented Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL from 2018 to 2024 and slammed 3,055 runs at an average of 41.84 and a strike rate of 147.79, with as many as seven hundreds and 18 fifties. The 34-year-old clobbered 863 runs in 17 matches during the 2022 edition, averaging 57.53 at a strike rate of 149.05, with four hundreds and as many fifties.

Overall, Buttler has a fantastic record in the IPL and has been extremely consistent. Having made his debut in the T20 league in 2016, the England batter has played 107 matches in which he has scored 3,582 runs at an average of 38.11 and a strike rate of 147.53, with seven tons and 19 half-centuries.

Team India all-rounder Washington Sundar was among the 20 players purchased by GT at the IPL 2025 auction. Having set a base price of ₹2 crore, the Tamil Nadu cricketer was sold for ₹3.2 crore, an absolute steal for Gujarat Titans considering all that he offers as a package.

Sundar has the proven ability to open the bowling and keep things tight in the powerplay. The 25-year-old off-spinner is also adept at bowling in the middle overs and picking up wickets. With the willow, he can be used as a floater in the batting order and can also be a good impact player option for Gujarat Titans.

Sundar will be high on confidence in the wake of his success in international cricket recently. He had a brilliant series with the ball in the Test series at home against New Zealand. The versatile cricketer also made handy contributions in Team India's famous Test triumph against Australia in Perth.
