Ranking MI's 5 best buys in IPL 2025 Auction ft. Trent Boult
Mumbai Indians have built a formidable squad following the IPL 2025 auction. The five-time champions shelled out INR 44.80 crore in the event to acquire 18 players.
Previously, Mumbai had retained five players - Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. Most of them were batters, so they needed to fill the gap in the bowling department to support ace pacer Bumrah.
The franchise certainly did well to find the missing pieces of the puzzle. They are now looking strong ahead of the upcoming season. On that note, let's rate their top acquisitions in the IPL 2025 auction.
#5 Trent Boult
The left-arm pacer was bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 12.5 crore. He played for the side for two seasons (2020 and 2021) and picked up 38 wickets, while helping them win the title in his first season.
Thereafter, Boult picked 45 wickets in three seasons with Rajasthan Royals, while appearing in playoffs in two out of three occasions. However, he was released from the squad ahead of the auction.
Boult's investment is a little expensive for Mumbai, as he is already in the twilight years of his career. His recent performances in franchise cricket have been mediocre with nine wickets in seven games at an economy of over 9 in MLC 2024.
#4 Naman Dhir
Naman Dhir grabbed attention from multiple franchises in the auction, but the Mumbai Indians managed to secure his services by using an RTM card. Dhir was signed for a whopping amount of INR 5.25 Cr.
Dhir's big amount could be credited to his sensational knock of 62* off 28 against Lucknow Super Giants last season. Although he could not take the team home, Dhir's batting talent was on full display that night.
#3 Allah Ghazanfar
Allah Ghazanfar's bid amount stunned everyone in the cricket fraternity. However, the young Afghan spinner is certainly deserving of the amount, as seen from his international and domestic performances.
Ghazanfar recently finished with figures of 6/26 in an ODI fixture against Bangladesh to help Afghanistan win by 92 runs. Earlier, he was the highest wicket-taker in the Shpageeza T20 League with 18 scalps.
Moreover, the 18-year-old is a potent lower-order batter and could provide lusty blows for Mumbai in the death overs.
#2 Mitchell Santner
The acquisition of Mitchell Santner was an excellent one for the Mumbai-based franchise for his base price of INR 2 crore. Recently, the left-arm spinner bagged 13 wickets in the Pune test against India, depicting his ability to utilize assistance offered by the subcontinent pitches.
In 207 T20s, Santner has scalped 210 wickets at an impressive economy of 7. He is also a proven performer with the bat, scoring 2287 T20 runs.
#1 Will Jacks
Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani was overjoyed after winning a bid to secure Will Jacks for the IPL 2025 season. He went to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) camp to thank them for not utilizing their RTM option on Jacks.
Certainly, Jacks is one of the finest picks in the IPL 2025 auction, owing to his price of INR 5.25 crore and track record in T20s. In the last edition, Jacks slammed 230 runs for RCB, including a terrific century against Gujarat Titans.
In 191 T20s, the top-order batter has amassed 4847 runs at a strike rate of 157.62. He could pair up well with Rohit Sharma and provide a flying start to the Mumbai team.
