Ranking the performances of each IPL 2024 bowling line-up

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 saw complete dominance of the batters, at least through the league stages. There were 41 occasions when a team crossed the 200-run mark, which is certainly unprecedented.

However, there were also some sides, who kept things under control on a few occasions. Let's take a look at the ranking of each side based on their economy in IPL 2024.


#10 Delhi Capitals (Economy: 9.95)

Delhi Capitals (DC) had the worst economy rate of 9.95 among all 10 IPL teams and are in the last position. Mukesh Kumar (17) and Khaleel Ahmed (17) were the joint-highest wicket-takers for the team.

Kuldeep Yadav (16), Axar Patel (11), and Ishant Sharma (11) brought their experience to secure breakthroughs as well. However, Rasikh Salam (9) and Anrich Nortje (7) recorded economy rates of 10.97 and 13.36, respectively, which puts DC in the last position.


#9 SunRisers Hyderabad (Economy: 9.89)

Although the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) emerged as the runners-up, their economy was on the higher side at 9.89.

T Natarajan (19) and Pat Cummins (18) were the top bowlers for the team, picking up wickets in crucial junctures. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (11) did well with an economy of 9.35. However, Mayank Markande (8) and Jaydev Unadkat (8) returned with expensive economies of 11.77 and 10.23, respectively.


#8 Mumbai Indians (Economy: 9.77)

The IPL 2024 wooden spooners, Mumbai Indians ended the season with an economy of 9.77. Among the key bowlers, Hardik Pandya (11) and Gerald Coetzee (13) had disappointing economy rates of 10.75 and 10.17, respectively.

However, Jasprit Bumrah was sensational to pick up 20 wickets at an economy rate of 6.48. He was well supported by Piyush Chawla with 13 scalps at 8.91.


#7 Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Economy: 9.74)

For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Lockie Ferguson emerged as the most expensive bowler with an economy rate of 10.62 and nine scalps. Yash Dayal (15) and Mohammed Siraj (15) were the joint-highest wicket-takers for the side.

Cameron Green (10) was a strong support to RCB with an economy rate of 8.61.


#6 Lucknow Super Giants (Economy: 9.57)

The Lucknow-based team recorded a combined economy of 9.57, with Naveen-ul-Haq emerging as the highest wicket-taker with 14 scalps. But the Afghan pacer was expensive with an economy rate of 10.19.

Yash Thakur (11), Ravi Bishnoi (10) and Mohsin Khan (10) also did well for the Super Giants.


#5 Gujarat Titans (Economy: 9.46)

With an economy of 9.46, Gujarat Titans are fifth-finest bowling team in this season. Although Mohit Sharma (13) picked up the most wickets, he had the worst economy rate of 10.89 for the Titans. He returned with the most expensive figures of 0/73 off four overs against Delhi Capitals.

Rashid Khan (10), Noor Ahmad (8), Umesh Yadav (8) and Sai Kishore (7) were the other wicket-takers. Out of them, Ahmad had the most economical rate of 8.32.


#4 Punjab Kings (Economy: 9.23)

The Punjab-based franchise are fourth in this ranking with an economy of 9.23. Kings' pacer, Harshal Patel won the Purple Cap after finishing with 24 wickets in 14 games at an economy of 9.73.

Arshdeep Singh (19) and Sam Curran (16) both had an economy of over 10. However, Rahul Chahar (10) and Kagiso Rabada (11) held back the opposition slightly with an economy of around 9.


#3 Kolkata Knight Riders (Economy: 9)

The IPL 2024 champions, Kolkata Knight Riders bundled out SunRisers Hyderabad for the lowest-ever of 113 in an IPL final. However, they also went to concede the highest-ever successful chase of 262 against Punjab Kings.

Varun Chakaravarthy was the highest wicket-taker with 21 scalps and had an impressive economy of 8.04. He was followed by Andre Russell (19), Harshit Rana (19), Sunil Narine (17) and Mitchell Star (17).


#2 Rajasthan Royals (Economy: 8.83)

With four bowlers having 13 or more wickets, Rajasthan Royals bowlers had an impressive outing in IPL 2024 with an economy of 8.83. Avesh Khan (19) and Yuzvendra Chahal (18) shone bright with their wicket-taking abilities.

Trent Boult (16) and Ravichandran Ashwin (9) also played a key role in taking wickets in crunch moments. It was Sandeep Sharma (13), who held the best economy of 8.18 among the key bowlers.


#1 Chennai Super Kings (Economy: 8.70)

The five-time champions emerged as the finest bowling team with an economy of 8.70 in the 2024 season. Tushar Deshpande was the pick of the bowlers for Chennai Super Kings with 17 wickets in 13 games. The right-arm pacer recorded the best figures of 4/27 for the team.

Matheesha Pathirana impressed the most with an economy of 7.68 while taking 13 wickets in six games. Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur was disappointing with an average of 61.80, with five scalps in nine appearances.
