Ranking the top 3 teams who had the best IPL 2025 Auction ft. Gujarat Titans
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction concluded with all teams building their final squads ahead of the upcoming season. As expected, teams engaged in fierce bidding wars and spent massive amounts on several players to acquire their services.
The two-day extravaganza saw as many as 182 players sold and ₹639.15 crore spent overall. While the marquee set grabbed the spotlight at the IPL 2025 auction as expected, teams also invested heavily in uncapped players, showing their intent to provide youngsters and upcoming players with a platform to groom their skills and showcase their talent.
Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Venkatesh Iyer attracted the highest bids respectively while the likes of David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, and Shardul Thakur did not find any bidders among many others.
With the IPL 2025 auction now done and dusted, all the teams will further strategize and begin preparations ahead of the upcoming season based on the squads they have built.
Based on the overall squad and buys made over the two days, here we take a look at the top three teams that had the best IPL 2025 auction.
#3 Mumbai Indians (MI)
Mumbai Indians, coming into the IPL 2025 auction, had already retained a strong core with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma.
However, with a strong batting line-up, the five-time champions had plenty of work to do in their bowling department. Lacking in spin, they have built a decent attack after bringing in Mitchell Santner, Allah Ghazanfar, and Karn Sharma.
Mumbai Indians made some solid purchases to bolster the fast-bowling attack as well. The likes of Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Reece Topley, and Lizaad Williams strengthen their pace unit, with Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya already present. Moreover, they added more firepower to the batting with purchases of Naman Dhir and Will Jacks.
#2 Delhi Capitals (DC)
In search of their maiden IPL trophy, the Delhi Capitals seem to have built a solid squad this time. While they released Rishabh Pant and could not get him back, they made a steal deal by bringing in KL Rahul from the marquee set.
They have also acquired a strong overseas group comprising Jake Fraser McGurk, Mitchell Starc, Tristan Stubbs, Faf du Plessis, Harry Brook, Dushmantha Chameera, and Donnavan Ferreira.
Along with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, who were retained, they have also built a potent Indian bowling group with the purchases of T Natarajan and Mukesh Kumar. With the likes of experienced players such as Mohit Sharma and Karun Nair now in the squad, they also have decent back-up options.
#1 Gujarat Titans (GT)
2022 IPL champions Gujarat Titans arguably had the best auction among all teams. They are among the strongest teams on paper after the conclusion of the mega auction that appears well balanced.
Starting with their fast bowling, they roped in the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammed Siraj, and Ishant Sharma, who will provide enough variety and experience, making it a potent pace attack.
With Rashid Khan already retained, they also added spark to their spin attack, rounding it up nicely with the purchases of Sai Kishore and Washington Sundar. In batting, they roped in Jos Buttler, the perfect opening partner for Shubman Gill at the top.
The batting is further strengthened with the addition of Sherfane Rutherford, Glenn Phillips, and Mahipal Lomror.
