Rauf withdrawn from ICC Champions Trophy
The International Cricket Council(ICC) has withdrawn its senior elite panel umpire, Asad Rauf from officiating at the upcoming Champions trophy in England and Wales, following reports in the media that stated that he was being investigated by the Mumbai police.
The ICC’s Chief executive Dave Richardson, explaining the decision to remove the well known Pakistani stated that, “In the wake of reports that the Mumbai Police are conducting an investigation into Asad Rauf’s activities, we feel that it is in Asad’s best interests as well as those of the sport and the event itself, that he is withdrawn from participating in the ICC Champions Trophy,”
The reports about Rauf’s enforced withdrawal from the ICC Champions trophy comes as no surprise after reports had started to swirl in the media about the Mumbai police investigation about his alleged involvement in the Spot-fixing scandal
