Ravi Bopara seeks clarity in his role to have a successful career

Bopara has had a decent run so far in the IPL for SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad allrounder Ravi Bopara insists that his career has seen its equal share of ups and downs largely because of an inconsistency in his role over the years. At the age of 29, he is hopeful that he has many years left in him to change it. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, he also revealed that he sees himself as a top-order batsman who bowls a bit.

"Yeah there have been a lot of stop-starts. I think a lot of that's down to never having a consistent role in a side. I am mainly a top-order batsman who bowls a little bit, and I may have been viewed as a middle-order batsman, finishing batsman, and someone who bowls a bit. So that maybe part of the reason," he said.

Praises the IPL

"IPL is free-flowing cricket. It's a lot of fun, great crowds, it's a great experience as a cricketer. You don't play in this sort of atmosphere anywhere in the world. You can even learn from the young cricketers and you can learn from the best overseas as well. There's guys like Murali, VVS Laxman, Tom Moody. It's always good to speak those guys," he said while elaborating that his role was to bat somewhere between 3 to 5 as per the situation and also to chip in with two overs minimum.

He also spoke about England’s love for Test Cricket, but said that things are changing a bit and he feels that in the future, the country would embrace the shortest form of the game with a lot of importance.

"I think England do view Test cricket as the pinnacle of the game. I think a lot of cricketers still do. But things are changing rapidly. We have seen how successful T20 has been, how successful IPL has been, and I think slowly, slowly things will go that way. We obviously don't want to forget about Test cricket. A lot of cricketers around the world love Test cricket; I don't think that would change, but there will be more importance on T20 cricket."

Sunrisers play their next match against the Mumbai Indians on Saturday.
