Ravi Shastri sounds confident about India winning the World Cup
Indian team Director Ravi Shastri has said that the Men In Blue are not going to make it easy for any of their opponents to get past them quickly and also sounded extremely confident about the present team defending their crown successfully.
MS Dhoni’s men have been on a roll in the ongoing 2015 World Cup, registering five consecutive wins on the trot, their latest one coming against Ireland on Tuesday and are sitting right on top of Pool B with 10 points in 5 matches.
“We were never here to fill in the numbers. We are not going to give any chances to any of our opponents and we are going to lift the trophy,” Shastri said after the game.
The 52-year-old further said that India were treating each game as a knockout from here on and added that everyone in the team are enjoying their cricket at the moment.
“It’s a good position to be in especially given that from now on, every game is a knockout. Once you start winning, you enjoy and feel relaxed, it’s when you lose that you want to stay locked in the dressing room. Right now, the team is enjoying, they are playing football, they are a happy unit,” he said.
The bowlers have been brilliant: Gavaskar
While Shastri spoke about how the team was in a happy space at the moment, Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar reserved special praise for the way the Indian bowlers have performed in the tournament, saying that to bowl the opposition out in 5 matches in a row was a tremendous achievement and that they don't receive as much applause for their efforts as they should.
“The bowlers deserve all the credit. 50 wickets in five matches, it is a wonderful achievement. Lot of times, the batsmen tend to overshadow them and they don’t get credit but it is nice to see the bowlers getting some credit,” the former India opener said.
India will play their final group game against Zimbabwe at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday before entering into the quarter-finals.
