Ravichandran Ashwin recommended for Arjuna Award by BCCI
Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin has been proposed by the BCCI for the reputed Arjuna Award this year, a PTI report said. This 27-year-old is also the proud owner of the cricket board’s Polly Umrigar Trophy best player award for 2012-13.
“Yes, Ashwin has been recommended for the Arjuna Award before the April 30 deadline. No other cricketer has been recommended (for the awards),” said Ratnakar Shetty, BCCI General Manager (Game Development).
Arjuna Award commends outstanding achievement in national sports. Last year, Virat Kohli was the recipient of this award. Till date, 46 cricketers, both male and female have made the nation proud by being honoured with this award.
Ashwin became the fastest Indian bowler to have taken 100 wickets in Test matches. He plays for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL. Ashwin’s a regular in the national side, following his spectacular rise through the ranks over the past few years, and has also emerged as a handy lower order batsman.
