Ravichandran Ashwin's joke on MS Dhoni's monster six and Dhaka traffic

MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin

India cantered to an Asia Cup title triumph on Sunday, completed by a typically huge last-ball six dispatched by MS Dhoni, and Ravichandran Ashwin had a joke to offer in the India dugout as the ball flew into the Bangladeshi crowd.

Ashwin had made a joke on Bangladesh’s slow moving traffic before the tournament had started, and clearly, it is something that remains to be on his mind. As Dhoni hit the six to calm the nerves in the dugout, Ashwin brought up his favourite topic again, leaving the rest of the team in splits.

As he saw the ball sailing away from Dhoni’s bat, unimpeded by anything, Ashwin’s mind was thrown to how impeded the team’s journey to the team hotel would be, and he rued, “Had we taken the ball (instead of the team bus), we could have avoided the Dhaka traffic.”

Dhoni’s smashes have been compared to many things before, but this must be the first time it has been referred to as a means of transport.

Al-Amin Hossain, the unfortunate bowler at the wrong end of Dhoni’s bat, watched in disbelief as Dhoni hit a six for the umpteenth time to finish a match, while the India players laughed at Ashwin’s joke, all the pressure of the final having been released.

India’s fielding coach R Sridhar tweeted that Ashwin had said this in the dugout, and the popular player replied as well.
