Ravindra Jadeja – A man with mystical powers

Ravindra Jadeja

The first ODI between India and the West Indies was delicately poised. But then, an athletic dive by Sir Ravindra Jadeja changed the game – perfect body balance clubbed with accurate guess work resulting in the fall of a very timely wicket for India. Off late, the fielding of Jadeja reminds me of Jonty Rhodes – he is just getting better and better.

With the bat, he has always been contributing valuable 30-40 runs in almost every encounter. Most of the times, he has played well when the team was in trouble. Very often, he has been able to cement the Indian innings during the need of the hour. He has displayed wisdom in his batting, by leaving the tricky deliveries and make use of the little loose ones.

He batted comfortably on the fast pitches of England, and unlike Suresh Raina, he faces no problem in playing short deliveries. In fact, he has emerged as mister dependable in the recent battles against any opposition – be it Australia, England, Zimbabwe or West Indies.

With the ball in hand, he has been even better. Whenever we are stuck and struggling for an important wicket, into the attack comes Sir Jadeja, and within no time he delivers. In other words, he has emerged as a complete package. Many of my friends out there might not agree, but I strongly believe that Jadeja has given clear signals that he is ready to take over the place of all rounder Yuvraj.

It takes a hell lot of talent to become world number one all rounder in the ICC rankings. His statistics speak volume about his unlimited capabilities. Jadeja is having a pretty good batting average of 31.37 in ODIs and in the first class matches it is even better – 50.98. Likewise, his bowling average in test cricket is just 19.85 and in the ODIs it is fairly good as well – 30.93. He plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and is a very important player of the squad.

There is a tag attached with Jadeja that he is very unpredictable. Some of his fans attribute this as being his magical powers! But jokes apart, he has a charismatic personality, and he has got an image of a player who spreads smiles around. He is already playing the role of a third spinner and hopefully he will continue to give many more fascinating performances in the times to come.

A friend of mine – who is true devotee of Jadeja – calls him as the Harry Potter of Team India! Yes, even I have started believing that he has got something mystical. As far as his chariot is running on the path of victory for Team India, every notion is welcome!
