Ravindra Jadeja brings out the sword celebration on reaching his fifty during the Mohali Test

Ravindra Jadeja once again came with a useful contribution with the bat

There is something about Ravindra Jadeja when he gets going with the bat in hand. The left-hander may not be the most consistent scorer down the order, but he surely has the capability to chip with the willow when the team needs the most.

During the ongoing India-England Test match at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, he once showed his batting prowess when the team found itself in a pickle, late on Day 2 at 204 for 6.

Walking out to join his spinning partner, Ravichandran Ashwin. the left-hander displayed good maturity, first to bat out the day with no further damage, then guiding the lower order on Monday to register yet another useful half-century

However, after he made his half-century, the left-hander brought out his trademark sword celebration out, twirling his bat vigorously in the direction of the dressing room with a smile on his face.

It wasn’t the first time that the all-rounder had celebrated in that manner. On getting to his first Test fifty at Lord’s in 2014, he celebrated in the same manner, leaving everyone bewildered at the venue.

It was only later revealed that Jadeja enjoyed sword fighting and on Monday, he once again brought out that mode of celebration.

India had a productive morning with the bat on Monday, as Ashwin and Jadeja carried the good work forward before the former was dismissed for a well-made 72. At lunch, the left-hander was on unbeaten on 70 with Jayant Yadav for company, as India reached 354 for 7, leading the visitors by 71 runs on Day 3.

This is also now Jadeja’s highest Test score, eclipsing the 68 he had made in Lord’s in India’s win over there in 2014.
