What's the story?

Playing for Jamnagar, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja slammed six sixes in an over during his rampaging century against Amreli. The left-hander achieved the unique feat in the opening match of Saurashtra Cricket Association's (SCA) inter-district T20 tournament.

In the 20-over fixture that took place at SCA 'B' ground in Rajkot, Jadeja hammered 154 from just 69 runs to star in Jamnagar's clinical victory. En route to his blazing knock, he plundered six successive sixes off an over from off-spinner Nilam Vamja.

The background

Following his prolonged inadequate showing with the white ball, Jadeja was sidelined from India's limited-overs teams alongside fellow spin all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin. The left-armer's previous appearance in coloured clothing for India came in the one-off T20I against West Indies at Sabina Park in July.

The heart of the matter

Opening the innings for Jamnagar alongside Divyaraj Chauhan, Jadeja was in an aggressive mood as he unleashed a calculated assault right from the outset. During the 15th over of the innings, the well-set southpaw smashed six consecutive sixes off an unsuspecting Nilam Vamja. In all, the off-spinner gave away a whopping 48 runs from his two overs.

Jadeja's 69-ball 154 was predominantly laced with a slew of hits to the fence and beyond. He scored 15 fours and 10 sixes in his scintillating knock. The 29-year old's attacking performance lifted Jamnagar to 239 for the loss of just six wickets.

Jadeja was run out in the penultimate over of the innings. Eventually, his team cruised to a massive victory against the unfancied Amreli outfit. The 121-run triumph delivered four crucial points of Jamnagar.

What's next?

SCA's inter-district T20 competition comprises 16 teams which have been segregated into four groups. Jadeja will be next seen in action during Jamnagar's clash against Botad on Saturday.

Author's take

Whilst the quality of bowling as well as conditions on offer cannot be brushed under the carpet, Jadeja deserves wholehearted applause for smashing six sixes in an over. Across all levels of the game, he joins the likes of Ravi Shastri and Yuvraj Singh as the prominent Indian cricketers who have managed to accomplish the stunning feat.
