Ravindra Jadeja’s swag was seen once again in his “sword dance” celebration
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, popularly called as “Sir” Ravindra Jadeja, flourished with the bat yet again, helping the team with his 90 off 170 balls, which was marked by 10 fours and a mighty six.
Sir Jadeja is the funny man of Indian cricket. He clicks selfies while he is sleeping, and the remains of a cigar he once smoked is now called the Ashes! Not just that, whichever IPL team he joins gets banned from the tournament (read Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Kerala Tuskers)
But when it comes to his on-field performance, he is the real boss. The Saurashtra all-rounder’s double edged sword has become an asset for the Indian team. Although he missed his maiden international century by only 10 runs today, his celebrations were trademark Jadeja style. He celebrated his half century by swinging the bat like a “Rajput” swings the sword in a battlefield.
The batsman, who struggled in cementing his place in the Indian team, was quoted by ANI as saying, “Being Rajput it is my trademark to enjoy success by swinging a bat, of course I can’t use sword on field.”
His celebration put a smile on his India teammates faces but surely poured salt on the wounds of a team that looked down-in-the-dumps.
This was not the first time when the crowd witnessed the “sword dance.” His Rajputana style celebration was first seen at Lords in 2014, when he scored his maiden Test fifty.
More recently, he swung his bat like a sword one more time during the Test match against New Zealand at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, to celebrate his second Test fifty. This time, however, Sir Ji got involved in a bit of trolling as captain Virat Kohli asked him to return to the pavilion as team India was declaring their innings. Kohli was seen imitating Jadeja’s trademark celebration when the latter failed to notice Kohli’s order to return to the dressing room. And once again, Jadeja became the butt of all jokes on the internet.
In Mohali, the all-rounder came to bat in the middle at a time which was tricky for the Indian team. Kohli was dismissed and India were 204/6 in reply to England’s 283. Jadeja joined his fellow spin partner R Ashwin to turn things around for the hosts after a middle order collapse.
Wonder what will the celebrations be like after he gets to his maiden Test century?
