AB de Villiers's XI gets the better of Virat Kohli's XI in practice game for RCB before IPL

RCB players practice at Dubai’s ICC cricket academy. They played a practice game on Monday between Virat XI and AB XI

The build up to IPL 7 saw a few teams carry out practice games on Monday. While Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders battled it out in Abu Dhabi, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a game amongst their squad, split up as Virat XI and AB XI at the ICC academy in Dubai.

The teams were as follows:

Virat XI: Chris Gayle, Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Rana, Mitchell Starc, Harshal Patel, Shadab Jakati, Varun Aaron, Sandeep Warrier, TBC (RCB didn’t announce who the 11th player in this squad was)

AB XI: Vijay Zol, Nic Maddinson, Tanmay Mishra, AB de Villiers, Yogesh Takawale, Albie Morkel, Ravi Rampaul, Abu Nechim, Ashoke Dinda, Yuzvendra Chahal, Muttiah Muralitharan.

While Virat XI got the chance to bat first, they could only post 127 on board in 20 overs. They didn’t get off to a great start and were 74/5 in 11 overs.

Skipper Kohli played a breezy knock of 42 off just 29 balls, and was the 3rd wicket to fall.

Out of form Yuvraj Singh collected 24 runs off 23 balls and departed at the end of 15th over with the score 101/7.

AB XI had a much stronger say in their innings as they raced to 90/1 in just 10 overs. Yogesh Takawale was the major contributor, scoring more than half the runs for his side in the first half. AB de Villiers scored only 10 runs in the game.

Albie Morkel, coming in at number 4, won the game for his side with a six. The practice continued thereafter and AB XI piled more runs to reach 175/4 in 16.5 over according to the last confirmed reports.
