RCB vs RPS Chinnaswamy Stadium , Bangalore Pitch report: The Chinnaswamy is one of the highest scoring pitch this season, with its short boundaries and batting-friendly tracks. The pitch for the previous match seemed a bit stickier than usual, but still yielded over 370 runs and a successful chase. Another feast for the batsmen might well be on the cards. Since this is an afternoon match, there won't be as much of an advantage for the chasing team. There is a chance of scattered showers, though.
Chinnaswamy Stadium , Bangalore Weather Forecast: When reported the weather seems to be clear here in Bangalore. However, it has been raining since past two days and rain might spoil the match today.
RCB possess probably the best batting line-up in the tournament. Chris Gayle, Lokesh Rahul, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Shane Watson, you cannot ask for anything better. Their lowest team total in the tournament so far is 170 against Mumbai Indians. They are consistently getting scores close to 200.
Virat Kohli is in supreme touch. He has scored the most runs in the tournament so far and is the current orange cap holder. He has produced 433 runs in 7 innings at an astonishing average of 72.16 and also scored a century. His partner in crime AB de Villiers is not too far behind. He is 6th on the list of top run-getters having scored 320 runs in 7 as many innings.
Despite the brilliance in the batting, their bowling has let them down on nearly all occasions. Teams have chased down big scores of 191, 170, 180 and 185 easily against them. They have managed to win only 2 matches out 6 defending. The toss of the coin hasn’t favoured Virat much yet.
RCB do not have a go-to bowler. Almost all of their bowlers have gone for big runs. Only Shane Watson is amongst the top 10 wicket takers in the tournament. Kane Richardson was expected to do well but he has given away runs at 9.71 per over. The chinaman bowler Tabraiz Shamsi has failed to make a mark as well. Yuzvendra Chahal though bowled well in the previous game with the figures of 27/2.
RPS are coming fresh after a crucial win over DD by 7 wickets. It must have felt good to the players defeating an in-form team in their own den. They badly need to keep the momentum going if they have any chance of making it the playoffs. They need to win almost all of their remaining 5 matches to finish in the top 4.
Ajinkya Rahane played a lovely knock of 63 not out off just 48 balls against DD to guide the team home. He has been the lone bright spot in the team’s injury-hit campaign so far. He is 5th on the list of top run getters having scored 343 runs in 9 innings which include 5 half centuries. He needs to keep going like this for the rest of the tournament.
Usman Khawaja has joined the squad recently and played a decent hand in the last game. He had a tremendous time in the Big Bash League down under and RPS would hope for same performances from him here too. Saurabh Tiwari has batted well in the last couple of matches. But still a lot would rest on the shoulders of the skipper MS Dhoni.
The issues of Ravichandran Ashwin being out of form continued in the last game too. He did pick up any wickets and went for 34 runs in his 4 overs. He has got only 3 wickets in 9 games so far, a well under par performance by a quality spinner. Ashok Dinda, Scott Boland and Rajat Bhatia had decent outings in the previous game. But it will be a challenge for them against a top batting line up of RCB.
