Reactions on Supreme Court's verdict on Sunil Gavaskar's appointment
The Supreme Court today elected Sunil Gavaskar as the interim President of BCCI, appointing him to the top spot for the duration of the IPL.
The top court also cleared the way for Chennai Super King and Rajasthan Royals to participate in IPL 7. In its decision to appoint Mr. Gavaskar the head of BCCI, the court said that any of the 5 Vice Presidents of the board can take the position after IPL.
Here’s the immediate reaction from those involved:
Justice Mudgal, head of probe committee investigating IPL scam, welcomed Gavaskar’s appointment:
“Apex court had acted correctly on the matter, and hoped that Gavaskar would be able to do justice to the new role that he has acquired. I think it is a very fair and balanced judgement.”
Niranjan Shah, former BCCI secretary:
“We have to accept SC’s order. It is in the best interest of cricket.”
Rajiv Shukla, former chairman of IPL:
“I think it is a balanced order.”
Aryama Sundaram, who was representing BCCI in the courtroom:
“This is exactly what the BCCI had proposed yesterday. We are glad.”
Acclaimed author Chetan Bhagat tweeted:
As far as cricket is concerned, the man of the match today could be the SC judge.
