What's the story?

Shikhar Dhawan's sister's wedding resulted in the Indian opener missing the second Test against Sri Lanka, which is currently taking place in Nagpur. The 31-year-old opener was replaced by Murali Vijay, who partnered KL Rahul at the top of the innings after Dhawan was released from the squad for the second Test.

While India were busy playing Sri Lanka at Nagpur, the Indian opener was in New Delhi for his sister's wedding along with his wife and children.

Here is what he posted on Instagram:

Congrats to my sister and Bason for getting married. Welcome to the club and God bless them @ba_son15 @aesha.dhawan5

In case you didn't know...

The 31-year-old opener from Delhi, who fell six shy of his seventh Test century in the second innings of the first Test in Kolkata was released from the Indian squad for the second Test. Along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Dhawan was confirmed as unavailable due to "personal reasons". While Bhuvneshwar Kumar got married on Thursday and was hence released for the rest of the series, Dhawan's absence was not known.

The heart of the matter

Until the Delhi opener posted a picture of himself and his wife Aesha with his sister Shreshta from her mehendi ceremony. The 31-year-old's sister's wedding took place at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in New Delhi on Thursday, which was attended by close friends and family.

What's next?

With KL Rahul's inconsistent form so far in the series, it remains to be seen if Shikhar Dhawan takes his place in the starting XI for the third Test in New Delhi. The 31-year-old will be available for selection in the third Test, which will take place in his hometown.

Author's take

While performing for your country is an incredible honour, one must understand that family always comes first. It was great to see that both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan were given time off despite being an integral part of India's plans. One hopes that Dhawan returns back to the side and continues his impressive form against Sri Lanka.
