After Steven Smith and David Warner stepped down from the positions of captain and vice-captain of the Australian cricket team in the light of the Sandpaper Gate controversy in the recently-concluded third Test against South Africa at Cape Town, the spotlight is now on Darren Lehmann.

Reports have emerged from Britain's Daily Telegraph claiming that the coach of Australian Cricket team is set to step down from his position before the commencement of the fourth Test Friday.

The Sandpaper Gate controversy has been dominating the headlines since the third day of the third Test between South Africa and Australia.

In case you have missed all the headlines, Cameron Bancroft was caught on camera using sandpaper to rub the ball in order to aid reverse swing earlier than usual. In the post-day press conference, Steve Smith confessed that the "leadership group", which also comprised on David Warner among other names, came up with the idea during the lunchtime in an act of desperation.

However, during the entire length of the conference, Darren Lehmann's name was left out by the Australian skipper, but not without subsequent question marks raised about the former's involvement in the saga

As the cricketing world is still reeling from the aftermath, reports have also emerged off late that Steve Smith and David Warner could be hit with a life ban for their involvement in the incident.

The repercussions rippled their way into the Indian Premier League as well, with Steve Smith stepping down as the captain of the Rajasthan Royals as he was subsequently replaced by Ajinkya Rahane. Rumours are also rife about David Warner stepping down as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, with reports also claiming that the duo in question might skip the entire duration of the IPL.
