Reports: Hashim Amla refused to give interview to Indian TV host because she was underdressed
According to reports, South Africa’s ODI captain had refused to give an interview to a female Indian TV host on their recent tour. Allegedly, Amla set a condition that the host needed to wear more clothes till he would talk to her. The reported incident occurred after the 5th and final ODI of the series, which the visitors won.
Several editorials with Islamic leanings have reported Amla’s action with pride, holding up his attitude as an example to be followed. There has been some outrage expressed as well.
Allegedly, Amla was displeased at the short dress the woman was wearing and her low-neck top, after which he apologised but firmly expressed his condition to the organisers. The woman was then asked to change her dress by the organisers, who complied.
This is not the first time Amla has been a staunch advocate of Islam – he had earlier courted controversy by refusing to sport the logo of beer company ‘Castle’ on his South Africa shirt, even agreeing to pay a fine for his non-compliance.
