Reports: Zimbabwe tour of Pakistan on hold after suicide attack near Gaddafi Stadium

The Pakistan-Zimbabwe series is being conducted under heavy security

Zimbabwe tour of Pakistan has been halted after the loud noise which was initially explained as a transformer blast during the 2nd ODI match, has been described as a suicide bomb attack near the Gaddafi Stadium.

A senior inspector and one civilian were killed, and the injured people were rushed to a nearby hospital.

“An attempt to attack the Gaddafi Stadium was foiled by the gallantry of a police official, who lost his life while trying to stop the attacker near Kalma Chowk,” Pakistan’s Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid told GeoNews.

According to the reports, players of Zimbabwe cricket team and their management will be having a meeting soon with the host officials and security authorities to figure out the fate of the tour.

"We heard a blast during the match yesterday. We do not know what it was," a Zimbabwe team spokesman said. "We have held a team meeting to inform everyone that our hosts are coming this afternoon to talk to us about the incident."

Pakistan cricket board has given a statement before that the remaining match on Sunday will go on as per scheduled.

"The tour will go ahead as planned and the Zimbabwe team will continue with their usual activities today though they are not training today. They will play the third match on Sunday and subsequently will fly back in the wee hours of Monday," PCB official said.

This is the first international tour to Pakistan by any cricket team after a gap of six years.
